I sent him on his way.

前文は忘れてしまいましたが、上文は「私は彼に別れを告げた」と意訳されていました。send one's on one's way で、このような意味になるのでしょうか？
直訳だと「彼なりの方法で彼を送った」となってしまい、意訳に近づけません。。

誰かをその人の道に送り出す

send (one) on (one's) way
To dismiss someone after some kind of meeting, discussion, or transaction.
The phrase implies that the one sending the person away considers such business to be finished.
・Just sign their petition and send them on their way.
・If there's nothing else you'd like to discuss, I'm going to have to send you on your way, since there are other students waiting.
