この質問のなかでA90six さんが 'I shouldn't dream of disturbing him' - the should seems almost laughably old-fashioned. といっていますが、この shouldn't はどうして古風に聞こえるんでしょうか？
また、ここでの should は　simple future か intention のどちらでしょうか？

「彼を煩わすなんて夢にも思わない。」と言う意味だと思うのですが、この should は

【助動-8】 《控えめ》～したいと思う、～なのですが◆【用法】like, love, hate, care, say, suppose, think, prefer などの動詞がよく用いられる
・ I should like to visit a boutique. ブティックへ行きたいのですが。
・ Perhaps I should say she did not trust us at all. 恐らく彼女は、私たちを全く信用していなかったといえるでしょうね。
【助動-9】 《感情》～であるとは、～するとは◆【用法】It is ... that の形で用いられる
・ I'm surprised that she should have felt so angry. 彼女がそんなに怒っていたとは驚きました。

のうちのどちらかなのでしょうね。つまり intention です。

それでおそらく、【助動-8】の方の用法を筆者は意図していて、やはり would のほうが現代風ですよね！と言っているのではないでしょうか。

　ただ、このサイトはとても良いことを言ってて、

Well, I say they don't, but the older generation can often see the shifts between their uses of function words (specially prepositions) and the use of them by younger people.

日本語でも同様の現象は多々見られまして、それを間違いだ～って、あたまから偉い学者さんたちが否定するのを聴いてると、おかしくなります。「全然大丈夫」とか、「ギャル文字」とか、私はあれはあれで立派な文化だと思ってます。ちなみに私は40代半ばですがもう若くないけど、若者文化は大切だと思う中年男です。
