Why Does DVD Shrink Analyze or Encode Twice?
何故DVD Shrinkは二度も分析やエンコードを行うのか

This is a very common misconception!!!
これは非常によくある誤解だね。

Let me first state there are 2 different types of "Analysis" that DVD Shrink will perform. Quick Analysis (QA) & Deep Analysis (DA).
まず最初に，DVD Shrinkが行う異なる二つのタイプ(QAとDA)の"分析"について述べさせてくれ。

The first analysis which will happen on EVERY DVD you open for the first time is known as a "Quick Analysis".
初めて開かれるすべてのDVDに対して行われる最初の分析はQuick Analysisとして知られている。

(After you have already opened that particular DVD with DVD Shrink,
it will no longer do the "Quick Analysis" on it.
DVD Shrinkで一回特定のDVDを開くと，もうそいつにはQuick Analysisは行われない

After the first time, it is stored in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\DVD Shrink" so that you do not have to perform a "QA" each time you insert the same DVD.)

What does the "Quick Analysis" do?
Quick Analysisは何をすること？

It gathers information from the DVD,
Quick AnalysisはDVDから情報を集めて
and then DVD Shrink makes a calculated estimation
(Its not really an estimation, it may be off less than 1%)
of the amount of compression it is going to use to shrink it down to fit on a standard single layer DVD-R.
標準的な片面DVD-Rに収めるために必要な圧縮の見積もり(訳注:括弧内理解できず)をするんだ。

The time it takes to do a "QA" is generally around 30 seconds to 5 min depending on the size of the DVD.

What does the "Deep Analysis" do?
Deep Analysisは何をするの？

"Deep Analysis" does two important things.
"Deep Analysis"は二つの重要なことをするよ。

1.It verifies that the output file size will NOT exceed the standard 4.37Gb
limitation you have with a standard single layer DVD-R.

出力されるファイルが片面DVD-Rの制限である4.37GBを超えないかどうかを確認する。

2. It greatly improves the output quality of the backup.
これはバックアップの出力時のクオリティを劇的に向上させる。

What it does is analyzes each individual scene of the DVD,
何をするかというとね，DVDの各シーンを分析して

and decides how to allocate the bitrate (compress some scenes more than others.)
ビットレートをどう配分したらいいかを決定するんだ(あるシーンは別なシーンよりもより圧縮されている)

so that the overall output quality will be better since DVD Shrink can apply the compression more accurately.
DVD Shrinkが圧縮を的確に適用できるようになるから出力時のクオリティはずっと良いものになっているわけだね。

(by no means am I implying that if you do the "DA", you wont have those artifacts or pixelation!)
I do a "DA" on every one of my backups.)
