spontaneousに「進んでする」という意味は今でもありますか

　spontaneousという単語を辞書でひくと、「ジーニアス」には先頭に、「自発的な」「進んでする」とあり、例文としてspontaneous offer to help（援助の自発的申し出）とあります。この意味ではvoluntaryと同じと思いますが、私の少ない英語の経験ではこのような意味でspontaneousを使っているのを見たり聞いたりしたことがありません。ほとんど「自然に起きる」とか「無意識の」という意味、つまりinvoluntaryと同じ意味で使われていると思います。
　語源的にはspontaneousに「自ら進んでする」という意味もありますが、今はそのような意味では使われていないと考えてよろしいのでしょうか。それともまだりっぱにそのような意味はあるのでしょうか。ＬＤＯＣＥにはこの意味はありませんでした。

少なくとも近年においては、「spontaneous」の核となっている意味合いは「自然に」だと私は思います。

たいてい「自然に」と訳しておけば間違いありません。

例えば「spontaneous offer to help」も「自然に手を差し伸べる」というニュアンスの意味ですので「voluntary」とは矛盾しないと思うんですよね。つまり、誰かに言われてやっと手を差し伸べるのではなく、当たり前のように自分から、ふっと救いの手を差し伸べるわけなので、「自発的でボランティア精神に富む」行為だと思うんです。

「自ら進んでする」をどう解釈するか、ですよね。

spontaneousの語意を参照URLの辞書から抜粋しました。

１）acting in accordance with or resulting from a natural feeling, impulse, or tendency, without any constraint, effort, or premeditation
２）having no apparent external cause or influence; occurring or produced by its own energy, force, etc. or through internal causes; self-acting
３）growing naturally without being planted or tended; indigenous; wild

日本語は英語のように語彙が多くないためにspontaneousの語意を転換する時に生ずるミスマッチのようですね。質問が出てくるまで気がつきませんでした。（^O^）
面白いことにコリンズの類似辞典で調べてみると、spontaneousの類語としてvoluntaryとinvoluntaryが両方とも記述してあります。

spontaneous =involuntaryは、上記の２）や３）無意識に出るあまり良くない意味の衝動みたいなもので、例題は
combustion :　I saw a pair of shoes by the bushes: spontaneous human combustion?

１）spontaneous =voluntary無意識では無い物の気が向くままの行動が意識をされたように良い結果に至る意味で
applause:　Spontaneous applause breaks out at the end of several of his appeals.
「ジーニアス」にある「自発的な」「進んでする」、例文としてspontaneous offer to help（援助の自発的申し出）と同じ使用のようですね。この使用例の方が多いと明記をしている辞書もあります。

日本語に変換すると、同義語に近いですが、英語では定義が違うようでした。

現在は、ご指摘の通り、「spontaneous」には「voluntary」=「自らの意志で進んで~~する」の意味は殆ど消滅しているようですね。

私の意見では「自らの意志で進んで~~する」を言おうとして「spontaneous」を故意に使えば「ちゃんと、voluntaryってえ最適の形容詞があるのに何故意味的には既に廃れて違う意味が主流になってしまったspontaneousを使うんだい?」ってな感じになるのでは。
