Heatingは動名詞です。

主語になっていて、Heating copperと結びついて「copperを加熱すること」と主部を形成しています。on the other handは挿入句ですからカッコにいれて後回しにする。cause itのitはもちろんcopper,byは数値が「～だけ」という前置詞です。やさしい文章ですから、これでご自分でお訳しになれるでしょう。
