意味的には

曲のすべての要素を自分たちで変えてしまうって、アドリブの要素が以前より重要になった？

少しはアドリブもあるけど、そんなにない。自分たちで全部変えられるということは、反対に、各パートを注意して聞くことができていたということ。だから、何がいい感じなのかよく分かり、アイデアをうまく形にしやすくなったわけ。ときには同じ楽器で別のテイクをレコーディングしたりしてね。

みたいな感じでしょう。
