英字新聞からですが、sheared the bow right offをどう訳せばいいでしょうか。

the Ady Gil, and "sheared the bow right off."

　「船首を切り取ってしまった」「船首を削ぎ取ってしまった」

shear right offは、下記のように「削ぎ取る」という意味です。

　bowは船首という意味です。

　Shepherdとsheared（shear：突っ切る、いきなり動く）が音が似ている駄洒落ですね。
