英訳「追い詰められた時ほど～なときはない」

学校に出すレポートを英語で書いているのですが、
「追い詰められた時ほど、効果的に勉強できるときはない。」
という英訳で詰まっています。
追い詰められた時というのは、試験前夜くらいの感じです。

Nothing is more effective than....
が浮かんで終わってしまっているのですが、続きはなにになるでしょうか。

雰囲気が出ていれば、この始まりじゃなくてもいいです。

Nothing is more effective than the deadline of the examination grind.

とかでも、いいかなあ。

の「II 〔窮地に〕corner」も使えます。その後にby tomorrow's examesなんてつけてもOKかと。
「I 〔獲物などを〕run down」も比ゆ的にはOKだと思います。
