以下の英文解釈について文法的解釈も含め教えて下さい。
nickelあたりから意味があやふやです。

But it turned out that the savings from introducing new building standards were pretty small — nickel and dime stuff compared to the energy we were using to get around by car.

　このような文章を読まれる方に turn out や compared to や get around という表現の説明など不要でしょう。

　あえて説明をするとしたら nickel and dime stuff でしょうか？　nickel and dime = of little importance ということです （この定義は下記のサイトから引用）。

　「しかし新しい建築標準を導入することで得られる節約は、ほんのわずかなもので -- 我々が車を乗り回すことで使っているエネルギーに比べたら、ものの数ではないということが分かった」
