最上級と複数形&要素が多くてどういうのか分かりませ

自信のない英語で，英語が非母語の高校生に理科の授業をします。

「生徒全員の年間の二酸化炭素排出分を吸収するのに，グループワークで測った最も太い木と同じサイズの木が，何本必要でしょう？」
は，以下のどれが適当でしょうか。
あるいは，正しくはどう言うのでしょうか。

1. How many thickest trees of the same size are needed to absorb CO2 emitted per year by all students？（グループのことをどうしたら良いか？）

2. How many thickest tree of your group is needed to absorb CO2 emitted per year by all students？

3. How many trees of the same size of the thickest tree of your group are needed to absorb CO2 emitted per year by all students？（グループのことは自明として略）

非母国語の生徒相手であれ、英語で理科の授業をなされているとの事にまずは敬意を表します。

さて、ご質問の例ですがこういう場合特に話し言葉であれば無理に一つにしないことです。

You remember the size of the thickest trees that we measured during the group work, right?

How many of those thickest trees do you think are needed to absorb entire amount of CO2 emitted by all students in a year?

この方が自然ですし、誤解も与えません。

では、せっかくですので多少無理やり１つの文にしてみます。

聞きたい事は最終的に「木が何本必要か？」ですのでご質問中の例文通り
How many trees are needed? が根幹部分です。

どういう木なのか？というと
グループワークで測った最も太い木、そしてそれと同じサイズ・・・という事ですから
trees with the same size as those thickest ones measured during the group work. となります。

何をするための木なのか？というと生徒全員の年間の二酸化炭素排出分を吸収するため・・・という事なのでここはお分かりの通り
to absorb CO2 emitted by all students in a year (per year可) となります。ここはemittedの後にstudentsが来た方が自然で1年間という期間にどちらかというと重きがあるので、yearを後にした方が自然と思います。

これらをつなげると
How many trees with the same size as those thickest ones measured during the group work are needed to absorb CO2 emitted by all students in a year? となります。　

長いですよね。。。。（汗）
２つの文にした方が言いやすいし、間違えにくいし、確実だと思います。
