なぜ、the day?

She can't get through the day without at least one cup of tea.

という英文で、なぜtheがついてるかわかりません。
一杯も紅茶を飲まないような、そんなdayって意味でthe day?

「その日、その日」という感覚でしょうか。

February is the shortest month of the year.
という言い方をしますが、この the year も、
特定の年というのでなく、その年年という感じです。

あるいは、day/month/year などの単位があるなかで、
day だよ、year だよ、という発想でもあります。
