Elsewhere in North America, the Trans-Canada Highway connects Canada's west coast to its east coast, and runs through all ten of the country's provinces. Like the PCH, its name can be slightly confusing since the Trans Canada Highway is a network of connected highways that have different names in different provinces. In western provinces like Alberta and British Columbia, for example, it is called Highway 1. Some people actually drive across Canada over the course of a few weeks to see all that the Trans-Canada highway offers. Such a lengthy road obviously presents motorists with a wide range of natural and cultural experiences. For instance, motorists can see Vancouver's shorelines, the Canadian Rockies, downtown Calgary, and the Canadian Prairies in the west. Continuing along the highway takes motorists near Canada's most notable city, Toronto, then into prominent cultural cities like Montréal and Québec City. Continuing east leads motorists to some of Canada's most picturesque landscapes in the maritime region.
