日本で、鳩と言っているのは、Rock Pigeonという種で、一般的には、pigeonと呼ばれています。日本の鳩と、全く大きさに見えます。伝書バトに使っていた種類です。野性のものは、どこで観たか覚えていませんが、いることは、います。群れを成す傾向があります。

翻って、アメリカ中、どこに行っても、必ず見つかるのは、common doveで、ぱっと見、pigeonの半分ほどの大きさです。地味な外見で、群れを成す習慣がないです。いつも、つがいで行動していて、冬のうちに住宅地の民家の屋根や高い木に巣をつくって、卵を産みます。

白色や灰色が混じった大きめのハトがpigeonで、街の中にもいたりします。食用になるのもpigeonです。doveは小型の野生のハトで、白いのは平和のシンボルにもされます。

もう1つ違いありました、、
海外の方はpigeonは食べますがdoveは食べません！
基本的に大きな違いはありませんね。

doveはやさしい人、pigeonは騙されやすい人というニュアンスも含まれています。

ピジョンって名前はハトっぽいのに、ポッポの時点で完全にスズメですよね…w
