この説明文で、
①the time taken by the Earth to orbit the Sun once ～
②the time taken for the Sun to return to the same position ～

①は、「地球が太陽の周りの公転軌道を一周するのに要する時間」と読めます。

②も、「太陽が元の場所へ戻るまでに要する時間」と理解できますが、
なぜ「the time taken by the Sun to ～」ではないのでしょうか。
「the time taken for the Sun to ～」は間違いではないでしょうか。

  ②では、「for」ではなく「by」が正しいのではないでしょうか。

あくまで個人的な感覚ですが・・・。

the Earthは、Wikipediaの文章を書いた人も含め我々人類が住んでいる星ですので、the Earthを行為の主体と見て（我々と同一視して）「by」を使った（「我々によってtakeされた時間」みたいな感覚）。

これに対して、the Sunは我々行為者とは別物（第三者）であるので、「彼のためにtakeされた時間」といったような感覚で「for」を使った。

知らんけど・・・。

｢太陽にとってかかった時間｣であって、
太陽が時間をとるわけではありません。

「the time taken by the Sun to ～」「the time taken for the Sun to ～」は天動説に音づいた軌道でしょう。

一方、①the time taken by the Earth to ～、②the time taken for the Sun to ～は、現代の地動説に基づいた説明でしょう。
