(2) favoring は、確かに分詞構文です。もしも主語 Bone augmentation が favoring の主語だったら、次のような文が書けるということになります。

(3) Bone augmentation for... favors premature bone graft and/or barrier membrane exposure.
（簡単に言うと、bone augmentation のせいで、prepature bone graft などが起こりやすい。）

(4) もしも favoring... の主語が直前の the grafted site being close to the margin of the flap だったら、次のような文が書けるということになります。
