figurative language

figurative language について調べているのですが、hyperboleって何ですか？辞書で調べたら「誇張法」と書いてあったのですが、いまいち意味が分かりません。例文とかつけていただけたら幸いです。よろしくお願いします。

ある辞書には下記のように定義されています。

noun(U): a way of speaking or writing that makes someone or something sound much bigger, better, smaller, worse, more unusual, etc. than they are

例文として、

The blurb on the back of the book was full of the usual hyperbole - enthralling, fascinating and so on.

また、hyperbolic として、

Politicians are found of hyperbolic phrases like 'terrorist outrages' and 'murderous deeds'.

文字通りものごとを誇張して表現することです。

少しおどけた表現が多いようです。

例。
I have't seen him for a century. あいつとは久しく会ってない。

一例：

They died laughing.
死ぬほど笑いころげた。

実際に死んでしまったわけじゃあないですよね。^^;
