Ph.D.取得にかかる年数

日本の学部を卒後すぐにアメリカのPh.D.コースへ行くとして(日本の修士や企業を経ずに)
Ph.D.取得にかかる年数について知りたいです。
イメージでは数学や物理学は比較的年数が短く、文学や政治学等は年数がかかりそうな気がします。

　これは未知数が多すぎて答えが出ない問題です。

　
　短いのでは金で買う学位があるそうです。価値はゼロから多分ご本人の数字まで色々でしょう。知人の知人の知人にPh.D. を持っていると吹聴する人がいましたが「どこかで買ったのだろう」という噂でした。

　土壌工学（早く言えば肥やしの研究）などは比較的に速くて修士から３年ぐらいとか聞いたことがあります。

　アメリカにも有名大から犬小屋なみ（建物でなく中身が）のボロ大までありますし、分野でも違いますし、ご本人の能力でも違います。

　ある分野では十年近くかかって学位を取ったが職の空きが全米に二つしかなく、自分には回って来なかった、という話を聞きました。

　日本の博士号について年数の幅が大きいのと似ています。

Ph.D.取得にかかる年数について知りたいです。
It depends on the schools and the programs. For undergraduate students, the shortest length to get a Ph. D degree is 5 years (2 years for MA + 3 years for Ph. D). Very small number of schools offers a 4-year Ph. D program for undergraduate students, but it's very challenging.

Humanities and liberal arts take longer than science and engineering in general. For example, doctoral students in history take 7-8 years on average to complete the program. On the other hand, most students in math or science can finish the program in 5-6 years, depending on the funding and eligibility for tuition waiver. In my department, two students are getting into a doctorate program from undergraduate level now.

If you are applying to a doctorate program as international students, you are expected to have a very good command of English. You should have a score of 95-100 at minimum in TOEFL iBT, and a decent score of GRE.
