という英文を
The sun setting, it was growing colder gradually.
としてもよいですか?

だって、前後の流れはわかるから過去完了にする必要はないし、グラジュアリーをつかうなら、進行形にするのが礼儀だと我は思う故に。

意味が違ってきますよ。



The sun having set, it grew cold gradually.
太陽が沈んでしまったので、だんだん寒くなってきた。

The sun setting, it was growing colder gradually.
(その時ちょうど)太陽が沈んでいるところだったので、(その瞬間)だんだん寒くなっていくところだった。

二つ目の英文のほうが情景が思い浮かんで小説的な文章ですね?

(1)一つ目の英文
I was looking for my child, but couldn't him until yesterday evening.
The sun having set, it was growing colder gradually.
The colder it was growing, the more lonely I felt.
Then I heard him crying. I was glad to find him alive.

(2)二つ目の英文
After so long, I met her yesterday evening.
She looked as beautiful as ever.
I kissed her in the face, and said to her,
"I love you for ever."
The sun setting, it was growing colder gradually.
So she said to me,
"I feel cold. please hug me."
I held her in my arms, and copped off with her.
