TOEIC文法問題

As head of Human Resources, Rachel will inform ---- employees of job openings before advertising the positions on the internet.

選択肢にentireがあったのですが、なぜ不可能なのでしょうか？全従業員に伝える。という風になりませんか？ちなみに正解はcurrentでした。

こんにちは。

entireには全体の、という意味があるので、日本語で考えると意味が通るように思えますが、entireの後には複数形の単語はつかないので、選択肢の中で使えるのがcurrentだけだったということでしょう。
もし、employeesが staff　だったら、entire　が使えます。

文章の意味は先ず社内の職員に説明して希望者を募り (internal recruiting)、その後で社外に求人するという手順をとるという手順を述べているのだと思います。

下記の第３節にも internal recruiting に関する文章があります。(Through its internal recruiting process, the Internal Job Application Program informs employees of job openings so that qualified employees will have the opportunity to apply and perform at the highest level for which they are capable and qualified and employees should apply online through the internal portal for an opening they are interested in.)

entire employees は複数形ではダメという観点は正論ですが、構わないという意見もなくはないのですね。TOEIC は常に単純な文法正誤問題ではありません。引っ掛けという部分もあります。

entireは、単数の名詞を修飾する形容詞なので、employees のように、複数の名詞の前にはこないということです。

例文としては、We had the entire building to ourselves for the evening.

entire は「ひとまとまりのもの全部」であり、all のような複数のものすべて、とは異なります。

his entire body なら、「彼の体じゅう」ということになり、
their entire bodies のように、ひとまとまりが複数あれば、entire ＋複数も可能です。

the entire employee で「一人の従業員まるごと」とあり、
それが複数となって
the entire employees ということはあり得るでしょうが、
これで「全従業員」とはなりません。

ここでまるで、the entire employee や、all employee のようにすれば
「全従業員」になるかのような回答がされていますが、それはむちゃくちゃです。

the entire employee はあくまでも、「一人の従業員、まるごと」です。

staff ならいいでしょうが、やはり the entire staff のように the が必要です。
