「天井にハエがとまっている」の英作文を教えてください

「天井にハエがとまっている」は There is a fly on the ceiling./ There are flies on the ceiling.が正解と習いましたが、A fly is on the ceiling.はダメなのでしょうか？

旧いい加減帝王に、新いい加減帝王のそろい踏みか。

そもそも be 動詞で「いる、ある」がある中で、
旧情報の the などの場合は
The pen is on the desk. でよく、
新情報の a などの場合は
There is a pen on the desk. と習います。

「とまっている」をただ be 動詞で表現するのであればやはりこの理屈が生きてきます。

the fly なら The fly is on the ceiling. でいいでしょうが、
いきなり a fly が出てくるのなら
There is a fly on the ceiling. とするのが正しい書き方です。

... fly on the ceiling は「天井にいるハエ」と説明した書き方。

ただ、複数なら There are some flies on the ceiling. とするのが普通です。
俗に複数冠詞と説明される some ですね。
