できなかった経験がある の英語

以下の日本文
『あなたも英語に慣れる前は、英語の文章を理解できなかった経験がたくさんあったことでしょう』
を英訳したいのですが、『できなかった経験がある』という日本語をどう表現したら良いのか、ご指導いただきたいです。

動詞experienceは、S experienced that s+v という形をとれないと伺っております。
また、名詞experienceは同格のthat をとれないと伺っております。

いったいどうしたらよいのか、at a loss 状態です。。。

どうしても "experience" を使いたいのでしたら以下のような文章とかどうでしょう。

You must have experienced many occasions where you were unable to understand writings in English before you grew used to the language.



"experience" を使う必要がないのでしたら幾らでも言いようはあると思います。

You too must have encountered many occasions where you were unable to understand writings in English before you became accustomed to the language.

There must have been many a time when you had trouble understanding the English language before you got used to it.

いろんな言い方があるとは思いますが、、、

I assume that there were times you could not understand English sentences before you got accustomed to them.
などはダメですか？
