英訳や和訳の問題について聞きたいです

訳と文構造について尋ねたいです。

(1)To be really congenial, a neighborhood needs a ruined house, an old stable, or an abandoned
countryyard where wild passions are consummated and female cats give birth.

an old stableが前文にかかるのか、独立しているのか、よく分かりません。


(2)It is the gathering place for all the local cats, a secret retreat where their revelry is betrayed
only by amorous yowls (Kittens in the same litter often have different fathers.)

whereの働きがよく分かりません。先行詞はa secret retreatでしょうか？
けど、難しくて、文の訳ができません。。


(3)Their action then is swift, sudden, and fearless, and the astonished foe turns its tail in terror.

thenが文中に入っているのですが、いいんでしょうか？
the astonished foe turns its tail in terror　の文に　the　が入っているのはどうしてなんでしょうか？
ここを訳すと「敵を恐怖で尻尾を巻いて、驚かすこと」でいいんでしょうか？

もう一つ、英訳を聞きたいです。
「けんかをした一方が片目を失うのもまれではない」という文を英語にするという問題なんですが
It is not rare that one of two cats fighting lose one side of his eyes.
でいいでしょうか？
これはヒントが欲しいです。

a ruined house, an old stable, or an abandoned country yard とこれらの３つが「AかBかC」と並んでいる状態です。

(2)It is the gathering place for all the local cats, a secret retreat where their revelry is betrayed only by amorous yowls (Kittens in the same litter often have different fathers.)

where の先行詞はretreat でいいと思います。
直訳は「それはすべての地域猫にとっての集合場所であり、さかりのついた鳴き声によってのみ彼らの大騒ぎがばれる、秘密の隠れ家である」
つまり、ニャーニャー鳴きわめきさえしなければ大騒ぎしてもばれない秘密の場所、ということです。

(3)Their action then is swift, sudden, and fearless, and the astonished foe turns its tail in terror.

then がここにあると、「そのときの彼らの行動は」と、swift, sudden, and fearlessの３つの語の後ろに置くよりも明快のような気が。
andの後ろの訳が違っています。正しくは「そして、びっくりした敵は恐怖のあまりしっぽを丸める」

最後の英訳ですが、fighting はcatsの前にした方がいいと思います。
また、loseはlosesにしないとだめなのと（三単現）、「片目」は単純にhis eye だけでいいかも。eyesではなくeyeということだけで「片目」となりますので。
つまり
It is not rare that one of two fighting cats loses his eye.

すみません、最後の文ですが、his eye ではなくてits eye の方がいいですね。

動物をitで受けると面白くない人もいるようですが、この文ではits tail と前の方で使われていますので、ここでもits eye　にするべきでしょう。
