最初の４文は難しくないですよね？

枝葉を落として幹だけにすると、簡単です。

The realities of creating air transportation are complex.

A heavier-than-air flying machine must have a structure and a(n) engine.

The engine must also be reliable.　続く「since」は、主文の理由を示しています。

A flying machine would have to be extremely stable.

次の文が分かりにくいですが、
「technological problems」とその次の文の「new social problems」とを対比させていることに気づけば、どう和訳するかにこだわる必要はないです。
Solving these technological problems would set the stage for putting “a flying machine in every garage.”
和訳→以上の技術的問題を解決すれば、「どの車庫にも空飛ぶ機械」を置ける段階になるでしょう。

最後の文は、「;」（セミコロン）を使って多数の要素を並列しています。普通、並列には「,」を使いますが、並列される要素の中に「,」が含まれると混乱します。そのときには「;」を使います。

　空気より重い空飛ぶ自動は、ともかくも実用的なものであるためには、軽量ではあっても耐久性のある構造を持たねばならないし、また、軽量ではあっても強力な馬力のエンジンを装備していなければならない。
