community=common+unity?

　コミュニティには30以上の定義があると聞いたことがあります。最近、ある専門書で
community=common+unity?
であり、目的を共有する人びとの集合体であるという定義を見つけました。

この解釈は語学的に妥当でしょうか。

こじつけ、民間語源と同レベルです。

「人という字は支え合っている形」と同じように話としては面白いかもしれませんが語源的には全く間違っています。

community は古いフランス語の communité から入ったもので（現代フランス語では communauté）これはラテン語の communis (=common) + -itas（名詞形語尾）からできた communitas が変形したものです。communitas は「仲間であること」が第一義にあります。

[a. OF. com(m)uneté, com(m)unité:—L. commūnitāt-em, f. commūn-is common. ME. had two forms, the trisyllabic comunete, comounté (see commonty), and the 4-syllabic co(m)munité, which remained in closer formal connexion with the original Latin type. The L. word was merely a noun of quality from commūnis, meaning ‘fellowship, community of relations or feelings’; but in med.L. it was, like universitas, used concretely in the sense of ‘a body of fellows or fellow-townsmen’, ‘universitas incolarum urbis vel oppidi,’ and this was its earlier use in English: see II.] O.E.D.

1. community

　　　　ラテン語の communis　公共の、公の、すべてあるいは多くの人と共有する、という意味の形容詞から生まれた抽象名詞、communitatem　「コミュニティ」から。古くは「共有地］と言った意味もあります。

２。　unity

　　　やはり源流はラテン語の「一つ」を意味する　unus　から出た　unitatem 一つであることで、意見が一つであること、合意、が語源です。

　　　　で「この解釈は語学的に妥当でしょうか 」と言うご質問ですが。

　　　　お答えは　「いいえ」　です。

　　　　１だけで十分で、２は不要です。
