For I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemnoath our forebears prescribed nearly a century and three quarters ago.

これは、（１つの時代の）終わりを象徴すると同時に、（１つの時代の）始まりを象徴し、

signifying renewal as well as change.

変化を意味すると同時に、再生を意味しています。

注：ケネディが大統領になった１９６１年は、１７７６年から１６５年前にあたり、それを１と３／４世紀近く前と言っています。１７７６年は、アメリカ独立宣言がなされた年で、そこにアメリカ建国の精神が盛られ、ケネディはそこに立ち返ることで、アメリカは再生し、新しい時代が始まると言っているのだと思われます。
