Consequently , not only has the audience for drama increased by truly astronomical progression as compared to previous ages,the actual quantity of dramatic performances produced has gone up in equal proportion.

単語の意味はなんとなくわかるのですが、ぼんやりとした訳になります。よろしくお願いします。

最初のは"not only"という否定語が強調のために前に出て、
"has the audience ～"とSVが倒置されています。
もとは
"Not only the audience for drama has increased by truly astronomical progression"

その"by"は「程度・差異」を表すと言われるものです。

"as compared to previous ages"については
接続詞"as"の後に「代名詞＋be動詞」が省略されており、
もとは
"as it (=the audience for drama) is compared to previous ages"です。

その次のコンマが、よくある"not only ～but …"の"but"の代わりをするもので、
audienceの数がincreaseしただけでなく、performancesのquantityもgo upしたと…
