lest の訳し方

'It is never safe to look into the future with eyes of fear.'

Edward H.Harriman said that, and he was right. Nothing is fearful lest thinking make it so. I can honestly say that probably 95% of the things I was afraid of, it turned out I had no reason to be.

この文章は「神との対話」の著者が、短い文章で、生き方の秘訣みたいなものを定期的にHPに載せている、その一つなのですが、

lest という言葉はこれまであまりなじみがなく、どう訳したらよいか分かりません。

「恐怖の目をもって未来を望むのは決して安全ではない」
EHハリマンはそう言い、そして、彼は正しい。どんなものも怖いと言うことはないのだ、それを怖いと考えることをしなければ。正直に言えば、私が怖いと思っていることの多分９５％は、そう思う理由がないことが明らかになった。

lest＋主語＋動詞で、「そうしなければ」のような仮定の条件節ですね。その為、現在のことであれば原形の動詞を使います。

「でないと」とか"because maybe,"・・・のようなそうでないような・・・。

"Nothing is fearful" の部分は自分に言い聞かせてる意味で断言している口調で、"何も怖くない！"「でないと/because maybe,」"そう考えたらそうなってしまう（から）"という感じでしょうか。

’怖いと考えない様にすれば、何も怖く無い。

’lest以下は条件を表す
仮定法と思われます。余り自信ありませんが、参考意見として。
