日本剃刀は1450年の歴史を持っています。
仏教の僧侶が髪を剃る儀式に使ったのが歴史の始まりです。
中世の日本では武士が頭を剃るために使いました。
日本剃刀は古くから神聖な道具で、とても高価なものでした。

日本剃刀は鋼(はがね)を軟鉄に貼り付けて造ります。
刃の大きさによって「半丁掛け(はんちょうがけ)」、
「一丁掛け(いっちょうがけ)」、「二丁掛け(にちょうがけ)」
と呼びます。最も刃が短い半丁掛けは女性の顔を剃るのに使います。

現代において日本剃刀が市場に出回ることはありません。
また、日本剃刀を作っている職人は全国で数人しかいません。
三条製作所の岩崎さんが作った日本剃刀は、切れ味抜群の最高級品です。

The Japanese straight razor has a 1450 year history. This history began with its use in a ceremony for shaving the heads of Buddhist monks. In the middle ages in Japan it was used to shave the heads of the samurai. The razor has long been considered a sacred item and commanded a high price.

A Japanese straight razor is made by bonding steel to soft iron. Depending on the size of the blade they are called Hanchou-gake, Itchou-gake or Nichou-gake. Then smallest blade or Hanchou-gake was used to shave women's faces.

In modern times Japanese straight razors cannot be found on the market. There are only a very few artisans who make these razors left in the whole country. The straight razors made by Mr. Iwasaki of the Sanjou factory are of the best quality with a superb cutting edge.
