と呼ばれた3人の鍛冶職人がいました。

鈴木太郎は三角刀(切り出し)、田中次郎は鉋(かんな)、
山田三郎は彫刻刀を得意としていました。

3人とも江戸時代から続く刀鍛冶の家系でした。

初代山田三郎は東京都神田にある湯島天神の近くに住んでいました。

湯島天神には刃物の神様が祭ってあり、下町と呼ばれる伝統的な町でした。

In the Meiji Period (1868-1912) Tokyo had three blacksmiths known as "The Three Greats of Edo."

Suzuki Tarou specialized in the triangular knives, Tanaka Jirou in the plane-blades, and Yamada Saburou in the carving knives.

All three belonged to blacksmith families dating back to the Edo Period (1603-1868).

Yamada Saburou, the first, lived near Yushima Tenjin Shrine, in Kanda, Tokyo.

The Yushima Tenjin Shrine housed the God of Blades and is located in the neighborhood of old traditions known as Shitamachi.
