Toshiba and S.Korean firm settle dispute

Japanese electronics firm Toshiba will receive more than 270 million dollars from a South Korean chipmaker over the maker's alleged use of Toshiba trade secrets.

It announced on Friday that it had reached an out-of-court settlement with SK Hynix.

Toshiba had been seeking more than 900 million dollars in damages from the Korean firm and a man who allegedly provided it with Toshiba's flash memory data 6 years ago.

The man was a former Japanese employee of US chipmaker SanDisk. He allegedly made a copy of the data when the maker had a joint venture with Toshiba.

In a court hearing last month, SK Hynix denied producing or selling products using illegally obtained data from the former SanDisk employee.

Toshiba said it will drop the suit against SK Hynix, and the two firms will work together to develop technology to produce next-generation memory chips.

It will continue to deal with the former employee in court.

it は the Korean firm のことです。

give なら give A B ＝ give B to A となるところが、
provide A with B ＝ provide B for A となります。

A が与える先（普通は人で、他に会社など）、B はものです。

provide B でとめて for A 省略、ということも可能でしょうが、
ここでは会社に提供した、と明確に表現するために it を置いています。

it は冒頭にある場合は、直前の文の何かを指している場合が多いですが、文中にある

ときは、基本的にその文内の何かを指してる場合が多いように思えます。

provide A with B の構文ですね。この意味は、「ＡにＢを提供する」
となりますので、この場合Ｂが「東芝フラッシュメモリーデータ」
でＡが「it」ですね。「it に東芝フラッシュメモリーデータを提供した」
だと、人か団体かそういうものが入りそうです。直前に「Korean」
がありますので、「韓国に東芝フラッシュメモリーデータを提供した」
で意味が通ります。

前後の文を見ないで解釈してみました。

指しているのは[Korean]ではなく[the Korean firm]（韓国企業）です。
