黒人霊歌「漕げよマイケル」の歌詞の意味が分かりません。

こんにちは。
昔の音楽の教科書に、黒人霊歌の「漕げよマイケル」という曲が載っているのですが、その歌詞で意味の分からないところがあり困っています。

一番目の歌詞は私でも分かりました。

Michael,row the boat ashore,Hallelujah!
（マイケル、岸に向かってボートを漕ぐんだ。ハレルヤ！）

ところが、ページの下のほうに注意書きがあって、

＊２番歌詞・・・「row the boat ashore」の所を、「boat a music boat」にする。

とあるのです。
この２番目の歌詞の意味がよく分かりません。
まず第一に、最初の"boat"は「舟に乗る（舟を漕ぐ）」という意味の動詞だと思いますが、辞書を見ると「（船遊びで）ボートに乗る（を漕ぐ）」とあって、この歌はそんな呑気なことを歌った曲ではないと思うのです。なんだか変です。
次に、後のほうの"music boat"は一体何のことでしょう？音楽イベントを行う大きな船のことでしょうか？奴隷の身でありながらそんなことが出来たのでしょうか？

そもそも、２番目の歌詞とされている「boat a music boat」はネットで検索しても全然見付かりません。本当にこんな歌詞はあるのでしょうか？
