落語を英訳する時に便利な言い方です。

「」と八つぁんが言うと、
「」と熊さんが返し、
「」とお梅ばあさんが口をだし、
「」と大家のご隠居が閉めた。
なんていう会話の場合にいちいち「he said」「she said」などと言わないで、「he goes」「she goes」等々で代用できるということです。

どうやら、イギリスでもアメリカでも使われるらしい。
くだけた口語表現ではあるけれど、スラングというほどではない。
それから、直接話法と一緒に使うもののようだ。

例えば He says "I hate the movie."　というようにsaysの後に話した事を続ける場合、しばしばHe saysの代わりに He goes "I hate the movie."と言います。

特にスラングということではなく会話ではよく言います。何もカナダ人に限ったことでなくアメリカ人でもオーストラリア人でも言います。
