英語の和訳について

一節なのですが訳せなくて困っています．
訳せているところは日本語で書くので，途中の英文(1)(2)(3)の訳を教えてください．


2つの半球の形による地球の描写は，非常に一般的となっているため，一部のかすかな点は見落とされているかもしれない．

（1）First, the division into Eastern and Western hemispheres is purely arbitrary - the earth can be divided in half for mapmaking purposes in any number of ways.

最も自然な分割は北半球と南半球に分けることである．

（2）In fact, any great circle on the earth could be used to divide the earth into two equal halves, each of which is depicted as the inside of circle.

北半球と南半球に分けるどの場合においても，共通の境界線は赤道である．
地球表面のどの点も，赤道より上にあるか，赤道より下にあるか，赤道上にあるかのどれかである．

（3）All points that lie above the equator are depicted on such a map as points inside one circle, while all points below the equator are depicted by points inside the other.

こんにちは、

先ずは該当箇所の全部の訳ではなくて自分で考えた訳や、疑問点をあげてください。そうしないと何処まで説明しないといけないのか分かりません。

おそらく、great circleや、inside of "a" circleの解釈に悩んでいるのだと推察します。

great circle＝大圏

inside of a circleのcircleは「緯線」の意味。

二つとも英和辞書に載っている筈ですからお確かめください。　単に大きな円、円と考えたら意味が分からなくなります。　これは地図の話をしているのですから、地理的な意味と解釈してください。

（３）のpoints inside the other.は、points inside the other (circle).の意味。

補足質問は遠慮なくしてくださいね。

第一に、東西両半球に分けるということ自体が、非常に恣意的なもので、地図製作の目的のために地球を半分に分割するというのなら、幾通りの方法でもあり得る。

> In fact, any great circle on the earth could be used to divide the earth into two equal halves, each of which is depicted as the inside of circle.

実際、地球の表面にそのような巨大な輪を描けば、地球を等しい大きさを持つ２つの半球に分けることができる。それらの半球の上のどの点も、その大きな円の内側にあることになる。

> All points that lie above the equator are depicted on such a map as points inside one circle, while all points below the equator are depicted by points inside the other.

そのような地図の上では、赤道で分割された上側の半球の上の点はすべてその円の内側にあり、逆に赤道より下の半球の上の点はやはりその円の内側にある。
