(I)Prefer a loss to a dishonest gain: the one brings pain at the moment the other for all time.

(II)It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.

(I)

　prefer A to B というパターンです。B よりも A を好む。

　「違法な儲け方をするくらいなら損した方がましだ。そんな真似をしたら碌なことはない」

(II)

　not A ... nor B というパターンです。A でもなく B でもない。

　「生き残るのは、生命力が強い種でもなければ一番賢い種でもない。環境の変化に対応できる種が生き残るのだ」

→ 誤魔化しの利益より損失を選ぶのです。前者の痛みはそのときのみ、後者のそれはつねに残るものだから。

(II)It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.

→ 生き残るのはもっとも強い種でもなくもっとも賢い種でもない。生き残るのは変化への順応力がもっとも高い種である。


ポイント：

☆　（I) が命令文であることを見逃さないこと。
☆　（II) not-nor-but の流れをつかむこと。
