assume と presume は両方とも「推定する」という意味がある？

assume と presume を辞書で引くと
両方とも「推定する」という意味があるのですが、
違いはあるのでしょうか？

つまり、assume は、To assume is to accept something as existing or being true without proof or on inconclusive grounds: “We must never assume that which is incapable of proof”ということで、ともかく何か実体のあるものを本当だと信じてみようと言う感覚があります。それに対し、presumeは、To presume is to suppose that something is reasonable or possible in the absence of proof to the contrary: “I presume you're tired after the long ride”つまり、実体そのものでなく、それの理由付けというか可能性というか、そういうものに対して使うと言うことだということですね。

の assume を presume にすると、「金を借りに来ると思っていたよ。」のような感じになると思います。つまり、今までの経過などがあって、事前に、それから推測していたと言う意味になるわけです。

の presume を assume にすると、「アクセントからするとトムはアイリッシュになるしかない。」のような感じになると思います。こちらは、「彼のアクセントを考えれば、この結論は自分の感覚では当然だ」のような意味合いです。ただ、こちらは、多少不自然ですかね。

辞書マル写しで大変恐縮ですが、

「presume」は目的語を伴わない「自動詞」での用法が
多いようですね!勿論「他動詞」でも使うようですが!
