軸目盛の表現方法

一つの軸の上下に二つの別スケールの目盛が付けられている場合、それぞれの目盛の意味する内容を英語で表現するには、The upeer scale bar indicates xxxxx and the lower scale bar indicates yyyyy. でよろしいでしょうか？

長い文で

Upper tick (scale) marks on the axis indicate xxxxx and lower tick (scale) marks indicate yyyyy.

省略して
Upper tick (scale) marks and lower tick (scale) marks on the axis indicate
xxxxx and yyyyy, respectively.

または更に省略して
Upper and lower tick (scale) marks on the axis indicate xxxxx and yyyyy, respectively.

axisとしましたが、スケールにこだわるなら。
Upper and lower tick marks on the scale indicate xxxxx and yyyyy,
respectively.

The top marks the metric system (here in centimeters) and the bottom marks inches

　　　　といったことでよろしいのでは？

ですから

The marks above the horizontal line indicate lengths in XXX and the ones below in YYY

上下合わせて１つの scale bar なのに、The upeer scale bar indicates X and the lower scale bar ...　とすると、scale bar が上下２つあるかのような印象を受けます。

upper row of the scale bar indicates A and the lower B　などとしたらどうでしょうか （あまり違わないかもしれませんが・・・）。
