　　　　１８５７年にビクトリア女王自身の意向でパーリアメント•ヒル（議会の丘）に聳えるゴシック調の建物が造られた。議事堂の建物は上院、下院、議長室、国会図書館を含む。

　　　　カナダは１０のプロビンス（州）と２つのテリトリー（領地）から成る立憲共和国である。オッタワが首都に選ばれるまでは、アメリカが川による補給路を遮断した際の軍用品補給路確保のため、リド運河が掘削された。
