Better have plentyの意味を教えてください。

The floating island they are on is drifting southward all the time in a current. Doctor sought help for porpoises and they suggested that whales could push the island.

" We passed one herd of them out there, sporting about among the icebergs. We will ask them to come over. And if they aren't enough, We will try and hunt up some more. Better have plenty."

ドクタードリトル航海記の一文です。最後のBetter have plentyの意味が解りません。どのような意味でしょうか。

#1ですけど、その文の直前でWeを繰り返し使っているので、We hadのほうがいいかもしれません。

You hadでもさほど違和感はないと思いますが。

「たくさんいたほうがいいし」みたいな意味です。
You had betterは学校で習っているはずですけど、「～したほうがいい」という意味。
