歌詞の訳

JewelのWho Will Save Your Soulの歌詞についてお尋ねします。

Who will save your soul when it comes to the flowers now?
この歌詞に「人生の終わりってときにあんたの魂を救ってくれる他人がいる？」という訳がついているのですが、
直訳するとどうなるのでしょうか？flowersがよくかわらないのですが。

正直いって、わかりませんでした。

　when it comes to は決まり文句、flowersのtheが気にかかる、とまず。で、その英文歌詞をネットでみました。が、わからない。

で、米国在住の米国人の知人（英文ライター）に聞いたら、以下のような答えでした。

１．英文歌詞全体を読んだ（flowerは単数が正しいと思う。）
２．どういう意味か確信ない。聞いたことない表現だ。
３．ただ、語感としてはcoming to the end of life　ないし a time whenn what will happen to the soul will be determinedという感じがしないわけではない。
３．ネイティブは、作詞家がなんとなくそれをにおわすような意図で作詞しているのではないかと思うのでは？が、これはあくまでも「想像」の域をでない。

ネイティブにわかりにくい英文ゆえ、なおさらわれわれにはですね。

参考用に、彼の英文を(なお、flowers はflowerでは？と聞きました）：
I looked it up as well. It appears that the singular is correct. ... I read the entire lyrics and do not know exactly what that phrase means. I have never heard it before. It would leave me with a feeling of "coming to the end of life" or at least to a time when what will happen to the soul will be determined. But that's just kind of a vague feeling rather than a definite perception of some clearly defined event. I think probably most people would vaguely sense that the lyricist is referring to death, but that's just a guess.
