以上の文章に、 child more than less obvious but　…
とありますが、この"more than less"とはどう訳せばいいのでしょうか？
less obvious　は、（あまり明らかではない）と訳したとしても
less の前にあるmore thanの使い方がわかりません。

動詞：　　 influences 「影響を与える」
目的語：　　the child 「子どもに」
　　　　副詞句：　more than X　「Xよりも」
　　　　X　の修飾句１：　　less obvious but more essential , それほど目につかないが本質的な
　　　　Xの修飾句２：　such as mass or weight　（例えば）嵩とか重さ（とか）のような
　　　　X　＝　qualities　性質

　　　　　　less obvious = それほど目につかない
but more essential = が本質的な > 性格

ですから構造の違う段階を横切って切り取ったために疑問が起きたのでしょう。
