正誤問題

文法・語法上の誤りを指摘する問題です。自分が良く分からなかったものを挙げます。間違い訂正、解説等お願いします。

1. The number of people who 【was⇒were】 injured was greater than they had expected.

彼らが予想したより、負傷した人々の数は、多かった。
☆問題の個所は、who (= people) were injured とつながる。次の、was greater than ... の was の主語は、The number なので、単数で受けています。

2. Have you read in the newspaper that 【his leg was broken⇒he broke his leg】 while playing football?
あなたは、新聞で、フットボールをしている最中に、彼が足を折ったと言うことを読みましたか？
☆ while (he was) playing football と続いています。his leg was broken としてしまうと、(he was) の部分の省略が、he/his leg と異なるので、できなくなります。

その会議に出席する予定の人は誰でも、事務室に短い手紙を送るべきです。
☆ anyone, anybody は、単数扱い。ただし、代名詞は、they で受ける時があります。

☆この問題の意図がよくわかりません。the most answer は、少しおかしいように思います。

たとえよく英語を知っているとしても、多くの日本人は外国人と話すのにためらいます。
☆ even だけでは、「たとえ～だとしても」にはならない。

10. This is a letter from my mother, who we hope 【that⇒不要】 will be out of the hospital soon.
これは、母からの手紙です、そして、私たちは、彼女が間もなく退院することを期待しています。
☆ This is a letter from my mother.
We hope that she will be out of the hospital soon.
をつないだもの、何度も出てきた「連鎖関係代名詞」です。連鎖関係代名詞を用いた場合、接続詞の that は、省略することになっています。また、ここの連鎖関係代名詞は、継続用法です。何回か、URLを付けましたが、新しいURLと共に３つ掲載します。参考にして下さい。かなりレベルの高い問題だと思います。
