the previous morning （その前の朝）だと、

理屈上は、その日の朝が直近の朝ではないか
というような疑問も湧くわけですが、
現実の言語は、そんなに理屈っぽくないらしく
前日の朝のことを the previous morning で表せるそうです。

yesterday は the previous day になるわけだから

the previous morning でしょうね。
