MOD関数のMODって??

エクセルの関数でMOD関数というのがありますが、
この『ＭＯＤ』ってどういう意味なのですか？
英語の略か何かでしょうか？

話の腰を折って申し訳ないけれど、私も調べてみました。通じるか通じないか、という観点から考えてみました。

MOD って、

MODULO
ですが、今調べましたら、訳は存在しないのですね。マイクロソフトコンピュータ用語辞典(1993年)では、
モジュロ演算というプログラミング用語としていました。一般の辞書では、「modulo」 というのは、前置詞です。

Webster's New World Dictionary(1993年) では、

Modulo: A mathematical function that yields the remainder of division.
[割り算の余りを出す、数学的関数]

MS のExcelの　Function Reference のMath Functions (算術関数)のコーナーでは、

Returns the remainder after number is divided by divisor. The result has the same sign as divisor. （remainder　が余り,　divisor は除数)

余り（剰余)というのは、remainder 、別の言葉で、residue　ただし、Modulo は、剰余の訳ではありません。

MSでは、こんな風に使っていますね。

If you want to calculate the remainder (modulus) of 22 divided by 5, you would use the following formula:
=MOD(22,5)

modulus というのは、～法ということです。

修正します：(少し勉強しました)

n が x を割り切るとき、x mod n は、「n を[法]とする剰余」となるわけですね。

適宜、法[係数]演算は、[0,b]の範囲で（表される)数字が、a に対して、合同する場合に、a mod b と数学的に表せられる。

数値を除数で割ったときの剰余(余り)を返す関数です。

MOD(5, 2)=1となります。(5割る2の余り)
