Pencil-makers started calling the center of the pencil simply "lead,
"which is the reason people still talk about pencil "lead"even though the graphite in it is nothing of the sort.

直訳：
その中（鉛筆の黒鉛の中）にある黒鉛は、そういう種類のもの（つまり鉛）ではまったくない

意訳：
鉛筆の黒鉛にはそういうもの（つまり鉛）は入っていない。
