at も on も文法的には正しいと思います。

用例を探す為に　wavenumber を weve length として検索してみました。
at high wave number side は見つからず、on high wave number sideは
次に有りました。

に目を惹かれます。医学では、このケースでは 「at」であり、「慣用的に」定まって
いるものと思われます。
ちなみに、検索に掛った用例は光学で、「慣用的に on」なのではないでしょうか。

違いとかイメージではなくて、「～の側に、～の側で」の意味では on ~ side として at ~ side　とはしないということです。
