John Meadowsの訃報ニュースを見て一言。
本文→彼の訃報ニュースを見て、びっくりしました。
彼はボディービルダーとして活躍している間、
多くのボディービル雑誌の紙面に必ず出てくらいの
知名度を上げ、引退後も多くのボディービルダー
のコーチとして陰で支えてきました。
私と歳が近いせいもあり、友達のような親近感を
感じる人でした。
また彼の笑顔が印象的で、彼が生きてる間、お会い
してみたかったです。

日本語文章もおかしいと思いますが、意味合いが

I was surprised to hear the news that Mr. John Meadows had passed away.

He was well known in a number of bodybuilding magazines during his career as a pro bodybuilder, and even after his retirement, he supported many bodybuilders as their coach.
Being close to him in age, I felt something congenial to him like a friend.
Moreover, his smile was so impressive.
I wish I could met him while he was in alive.

I have supported him behind the scenes as a coach.
