英語の質問です。 先日という意味でthe other day という語が使われると思います。しかし、

英語の質問です。

先日という意味でthe other day という語が使われると思います。しかし、on the other dayは間違いだと習いました。何故でしょうか？

on Saturday や on the 13th など、特定の日付にはonがつくはずです。
しかしなぜこの場合は the other day になるのでしょうか？

the other day, the other morning, the other week などは副詞句のような役割を果たします。

おそらく昔は on がついていたのでしょうが、亡くなったのでしょう。

先日というのは2日前も1週間前も含むので特定ではないですね

曖昧で特定できないからじゃないですか。

yesterday も今日が特定できなければ単に一日前の日に過ぎないのですしね。

「the other day（先日）」は「today（今日）」や「yesterday（昨日）」と同じで「on」を付けない、と覚えればいいでしょう。
