英語の質問です。

When I taught in high school, I wanted to give every student good grades. If I had a quiz, I tried to make it easy and fun. I also tried to make every lecture as interesting as possible. However, there was no way to make homework fun. Most students hate doing homework. None of my students enjoyed studying at home.

「To learn English, you must review your vocabulary words every day. 」Reading and writing essays in English is also very important. Reading fiction can be a fun way to study a foreign language. If these essays are boring, feel free to blame me. I hope I've managed to make them a little interesting. I decided to write them because I want to help students learn English vocabulary. When you have finished reading this, hopefully you will know a few more English words. Is a good grade the best reward for studying? Or would you prefer cash for every English word you learn?

微妙なところで、同じように思われるかも知れませんが vocabularyをもう一度説明します。

vocabulary とは例えば work, book, plane とか自分が知っている色々な単語 (word) の集まり（collection) のことです。learn (学ぶ）するのは rain, fine とかいう単語（word) であってそれら単語の集まり（collection)を学ぶのではありません。

ご質問の意味がとれませんが、誤解があるかも知れないにもかかわらず推測してみます。

「 a lot of vocabulary 」が＜？＞です。（ちなみに、vocabulariesはアルファベット順の単語表）
vocabulary というのは語彙の一つの集りのことですが、たとえば、英語なら英語だけの語彙の集り全体（一つのグループ）のことです。a lot of を付けると、仏語、独語、中国語、その他の言語を含む多くの言語を含む集りを意味することになるのでは？　個々の単語のことではなくなります。
例）The Japanese vocabulary 「日本語の総語彙」（日本語全体のこと）

ですから、He wanted to help students learn English vocabulary. でよいのでは？

a lot of のところが間違いだと思います。

宿題について話しているなかでの review your vocabulary words every day ですから「毎日（授業で習った）単語を復習する」ということだと思います。
その先生がたくさんの単語を覚えることが大事と思っているのか、少数の基本的な単語を完璧にマスターする方が良いと考えているのか、これだけでは全然分かりません。

それは vocabulary の言葉の定義のためです。

vocabulary は言葉の集まりの事であり言葉自体ではありません。ですから vocabulary は increase vocabulary というように increase という動詞やそれに類似た動詞を一緒に使い learn vocabulary のように learn を一緒には使いません。

「　」の部分では vocabulary words のようにwords が付いているので問題ないわけです。
