Is there any othei meaning for that except the literal meaning?

It figuratively means "to be encouraged".

And 「(だれかの)背中を押す」is "encourage".

Think of a situation like this.
A friend of yours is waiting for his/her performance
at the wings of the stage, feeling stage fright.
Now it's his/her turn.
You literally push your friend's back toward
the stage and says "Go ahead and do it!
You'll be OK. You can do it perfectly"

I think the example has both meanings.
