英文明細で"Sate of the art"?!

特許の英文明細で、「State of the art」なら分かるのですが、ごくたま～に「Sate of the art」と書いてあるものを見かけます。
最初は単なるスペルミスかなと思ったのですが、きちんとした文献などにも書いてあったりするので、よく分からなくなってきました。「Sate of the art」がスペルミスじゃないならば、どう訳せばよいのでしょうか？

それでも間違いなくスペルミスでしょう。どんなに頭がいい人だってスペルミスぐらいはします。
